As far as curriculum is concerned, Educational Technology comprises of theory as well as practicum. The theory deals with psychological and philosophical aspects, while practicum deals with the sociological and technical aspects and gives the learners exposure to the Educational Technology Industry viz. Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC), National Science Centre (NSC) and opportunities to produce aids for educational purposes.

A society of interested people called SOCRATES, (Society of CIE's Rising Agglomeration of Technologists for the Educational System) was named after the very famous great teacher and Greek philosopher Socrates (also known as Sukrat). SOCRATES comprises of students who have opted for Educational Technology as their specialization in the department and the teacher in-charge. However, it also is open for others interested in the field. SOCRATES plays an active role in spreading awareness about emerging technologies and ways which can improve the teaching - learning process and has organized various activities such as screening - cum - discussion sessions of educational films, interface with the ET Industry, workshops, invited lectures, excursions, quiz and so on. Presently, Mr. Vinod Kumar Kanvaria is the teacher in-charge of SOCRATES and Educational Technology.

SOCRATES reflects and continues the work of the great philosopher to present a modern look at the future world of education. CIE has an Educational Technology laboratory, situated in CIE's Annexe. It is equipped with Overhead Projectors, LCD projector (ceiling mounted), computer, Television, slide - cum - film projectors, lecture sound system, video and CD player and many educational video films. The lab is being used for various purposes by the Department. Presently, Mr. I.S. Rawat is the Technical Assistant for the E.T. lab.
