CIE Student Panchayat 2008-2009

We believe in the all around development of children and therefore our teacher development curriculum has a strong component of co-curricular activities organized under the Students' Panchayat. We have always had very energetic, and scintillating programmes organized each year which not only motivate students to participate in various activities but also develop organizational and leadership skills. The  programmes of each year include literary activities, cultural programmes, physical activities etc.

Panchayat activities of this year sparked off on the first Friday of the session in July with a spectacular cultural programme without any supervision or guidance from any of the teachers. Each House put up a group dance, a group song and a skit within half an hour allotted to them.

Election to the Students' Panchayat positions- President, Cultural Secretary, Literary Secretary, Sports Secretary and Treasurer was organized on the 10th of August following all the procedures of a democratic and transparent election system which went off very peacefully and successfully.

Around the time of India's Independence Day, competitions of patriotic group songs, group dances and plays were organized in which students participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

The installation of the Panchayat Members with the oath taking ceremony was solemnized on the 31st of August with the blessings of the Chief Guest, Ms. R. S. Devi, our beloved Chechi, who retired from CIE some years back. Since it was the time of Onam, a much celebrated festival of Kerala, Kaikkottikali, a traditional folk dance of Kerala was presented in the morning assembly by a group of students, which was highly appreciated.

Literary activities got launched with a competition in extempore on varied topics related to education and society in general. This was followed by a competition in essay, poem and story writing. Three different options were given to enhance the number of participants and the outcome was quite satisfying with almost 75% participation!

In mid-September, under the aegis of Spicmacay Virasat 2007. we were blessed to have Guru Kalamandalam Gopiji and his group to present a recital in Kathakali, a classic traditional dance form of Kerala. The rendition included a Kathakali performance clubbed with a lecture cum demonstration which truly enthralled the audience. The interactive session with demonstration added spark to the programme. Many senior people in the audience appreciated the recital saying it was a very enriching and inspiring experience.

Two quiz programmes were organized, the first 'about' CIE in early September and the next UN Quiz on 24th October, the UN Day, both of which saw enthusiastic participation of the students.

Next on the agenda were a series of fun games organized on 26th Oct. They were, spoon and lemon race, sack race, one legged race, three legged race, and balancing game. These games, needless to say were greatly enjoyed by the students and gave them a much wanted respite from the tight schedule of teaching practice in the schools.

Programmes on the agenda for this academic session include Theatre Workshop, Puppetry Workshop, Yoga Workshop and other cultural programmes. As always, we in CIE enjoy the Panchayat activities to a great extent and look forward to more interesting programmes ahead....
